The Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso — Italian for “red heart” — is the concept that will shape every Alfa Romeo of the coming years. Revealed on 11 October 2026 ahead of its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show, it is a 4.7-metre, four-seat coupé with rear-hinged rear doors, a 2.9-litre V6 full-hybrid with Q4 all-wheel drive and a new design philosophy Alfa calls Bellezza Necessaria — “necessary beauty” (Alfa Romeo).

What Is the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso?

Alfa Romeo is careful to say what the Cuorerosso is not: “neither an anticipation of a production model nor a mere exercise in style”. It is a design manifesto — a statement of how future Alfas will look, feel and drive, whatever powertrain they use. “Regardless of the architecture or technology adopted, the end result will always be an Alfa Romeo,” the company says (Alfa Romeo).

The name was announced on 29 September and joins two Alfa symbols: red, “the color of passion”, and the heart, “the origin of that same energy” (Alfa Romeo). “Alfa Romeo has always created cars that are capable not only of moving people, but of arousing something within them,” said Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo and Maserati. “This is our idea of Bellezza Necessaria: to create cars designed for those who love to drive” (Alfa Romeo).

The V6 is a hybridised version of the 2.9-litre twin-turbo engine from the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio (Auto Express). Alfa Romeo has not published power or torque. The concept also previews a multi-energy approach: future models on the same thinking can be full-electric, plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid or full hybrid, up to 4.7 metres long and with room for Quadrifoglio versions (Alfa Romeo).

Design: Trilobo, Coda Tronca and Liquid Ink Red

Alfa’s Centro Stile skipped most of the sketching and started by sculpting the car from a single solid block, with no wheels, glazing or details — aiming for “a living, monolithic, continuous sculpture” (Alfa Romeo, Auto&Design). At the front, the classic Trilobo returns: a central Scudetto that runs into the bonnet, flanked by eye-like headlights. The grille is woven from small backlit triangles referencing the Cross and the Biscione, with a light signature that pulses like a heartbeat.

In profile, a wedge line runs from nose to tail and ends in a Coda Tronca — the truncated tail of classic Alfas — with two round lights and an integrated diffuser. The rear window is shaped like the Scudetto. There are no door handles: the doors open from a touch control on the roof, and the rear doors are hinged at the back. The forged wheels reinterpret Alfa’s historic “telephone dial” design, and the mirrors carry Italian-flag inlays (Alfa Romeo, Auto Express).

The paint is called Liquid Ink Red: a coloured transparent coat over a fine aluminium base, intense red in direct light and almost black from other angles (Auto&Design).

Interior: Four Buckets and a Magma Display

Inside, four individual seats reinterpret the classic bucket seat, and a slim, horizontal dashboard draws on the 1967 33 Stradale and its modern successor. The instrument display, called Cannocchiale Vivente, has two modes: Immersivo with two traditional dials, and Concentrato, where they merge into one and show less information as driving gets more intense. On the tunnel, the Magma Display combines a touch surface, rotary dial, drive-mode selector and toggle switches, lit in a lava-like red (Alfa Romeo).

Steering is by wire through a three-spoke wheel, and the drive modes are Cruise, Sport and Quadrifoglio; in Quadrifoglio mode, four light points in the air vents recall the Cross from the logo. Materials include Poltrona Frau nubuck where occupants touch, regenerated leather with 60 per cent post-industrial waste, a dashboard fabric developed with the Luna Rossa sailing team and recycled carbon fibre with red resins (Alfa Romeo).

What the Cuorerosso Means for Future Alfa Romeos

According to Auto Express, the concept’s design will influence several new models before the end of the decade, starting with a Tonale replacement in early 2028 in the upper C-SUV segment, followed by a sporty hatchback in the spirit of the 147 and Giulietta. A Stelvio successor in the D-segment is being evaluated, while the current Giulia and Stelvio end production in 2027 (Auto Express). “A car cannot be reduced to a cold piece of technology,” said Alfa Romeo head of design Alejandro Mesonero (Auto Express).

Batman Garage Verdict

A V6 with a heartbeat-lit grille, a Coda Tronca and four bucket seats: the Cuorerosso is the most Alfa-like Alfa in years. It is not a car you can buy, but if the next Tonale, the new hatchback and a future Stelvio carry even half of this design, Alfa Romeo is heading in the right direction.
