Jaguar has finally shown the car its radical rebrand was building towards. The Jaguar Type 01, unveiled in New York on 6 October 2026, is a four-door electric GT with three motors, up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm, 0–62 mph in 3.2 seconds and an expected 400-mile EPA range. It costs from £130,000, orders open in early 2027 and it will be built in Solihull (JLR).
JAGUAR TYPE 01 AT A GLANCE
From £130,000 (about €152,900) · 1,030 PS, 1,365 Nm, 3 motors · 0–62 mph 3.2 s · 118 kWh, 850 V · up to 400 miles EPA · orders early 2027, production 2027 in Solihull
From Type 00 Concept to Type 01
The story starts in November 2024, when Jaguar replaced its logo and launched the “Copy Nothing” campaign — a video without a single car that drew widespread criticism. Two weeks later, at Miami Art Week, Jaguar showed what it meant: the Type 00, a long, low two-door design vision in Miami Pink and London Blue with 23-inch wheels, no rear window and a brass “spine” running through the cabin (Jaguar).
The production car keeps the proportions but gains two more doors. On 13 May 2026 Jaguar confirmed the name: “Type” links it to the C-Type and E-Type, “0” stands for zero tailpipe emissions and “1” for the first car of the new era. “The zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter,” said Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover (Jaguar). Camouflaged prototypes appeared at the Monaco E-Prix and at the Pebble Beach Concours in August.
Jaguar Type 01 Specs
Power comes from three electric motors — one at the front and one for each rear wheel, which allows torque vectoring between the rear wheels (Top Gear). Jaguar quotes up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm, enough for 0–62 mph in 3.2 seconds. The battery holds 118 kWh of usable energy on an 850-volt electrical system (JLR).

“Reported” figures come from journalists who saw the car before the reveal (Top Gear, Jalopnik) and are not yet confirmed by Jaguar. Jaguar has not published a WLTP range for Europe; the 400-mile figure is the expected US EPA rating, about 644 km.
Range and Charging
Jaguar gives two range figures, which is unusual and useful: up to 400 miles on the expected EPA cycle, and up to 320 miles when driving at a constant 75 mph (120 km/h) on the motorway — a realistic number for a long-distance GT. On a 350 kW charger the Type 01 adds 200 miles (321 km) in as little as 13 minutes (JLR); Carscoops quotes 10–80 per cent in 22 minutes (Carscoops).
Design and Interior: No Rear Window, Four Seats
Like the concept, the Type 01 has no rear window. A digital ClearSight rear-view display sits at the base of the windscreen, level with the door mirrors. A brass-finished central spine runs the full length of the cabin and divides it into four individual seats, with materials inspired by travertine stone and artisan textiles (Jaguar). The dashboard combines a 24-inch display with a small 7-inch touchscreen for climate and audio, and there is a 38-speaker sound system (Carscoops).
Built in Britain: Solihull, Wolverhampton and Halewood
JLR says the Type 01 is “designed, engineered and manufactured in Britain”. Final assembly takes place at Solihull, the electric drive units and battery packs come from Wolverhampton, and the body panels are pressed at Halewood. The company has invested £11.5 billion in the programme as part of a £15–18 billion five-year plan. “Designed, engineered and built in the UK, Jaguar is a copy of nothing and is a vital part of JLR’s growth story,” said JLR chief executive PB Balaji (JLR), who took over from Adrian Mardell in November 2025 (JLR).
Price, Order Books and Deliveries
The Type 01 starts at £130,000 in the UK — about €152,900 or $171,600 at today’s exchange rates, although US reports point to a price of around $130,000 there (Carscoops). Customers can order in early 2027 and production starts in 2027 (JLR); first deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027.

Why the Type 01 Matters for Jaguar
Jaguar stopped selling new cars for more than a year to prepare for this moment; the last F-Pace left production in December 2025. The Type 01 is therefore not just a new model but the whole brand: Jaguar is moving from the market of Mercedes and BMW into the price band of Porsche and Bentley, with a much smaller dealer network and an electric-only line-up. Top Gear reports a sales ambition of around 10,000 cars a year (Top Gear).
Batman Garage Verdict
On paper the Type 01 is a serious car: more power than a Taycan Turbo S, a usable 320-mile motorway range and 13-minute charging, all wrapped in the most distinctive shape of any electric GT. The questions are elsewhere — whether buyers accept a £130,000 Jaguar with no rear window and a 2.7-tonne kerb weight, and whether the brand reset wins back the customers it lost. We will know when the first cars reach customers in the second half of 2027.
