Pagani Automobili has unveiled the Huayra 70 Derecho, a bespoke open-top hypercar making its global debut at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed and marking the second of three commemorative models built for founder Horacio Pagani’s 70th birthday. Developed by the Grandi Complicazioni special-projects division, it pairs a Mercedes-AMG 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 with a fully mechanical seven-speed transverse Xtrac manual gearbox and a two-tone Pearl Orange & Inky Blue livery over exposed carbon fibre.

Second of Three — The Huayra 70 Tribute Series

The Huayra 70 Derecho follows the Huayra Codalunga, launched in 2022 as the first of three planned commemorative models honouring the founder. Whereas the Codalunga was a coupé longtail and the still-unrevealed third car remains a secret, the Derecho is an open-top roadster configured explicitly around a stick-shift manual gearbox — a hardware combination almost extinct at this end of the market. Its name derives from the derecho, a rare storm system that produces long, straight, sustained wind lines: a metaphor Pagani has chosen for the car’s single-minded, uninterrupted power delivery.

The Grandi Complicazioni division builds these tributes as “few-off creations” and it is understood that only a single Huayra 70 Derecho has been produced. In Pagani parlance, that positions it alongside models such as the Huayra Codalunga Speedster and Huayra Imola at the ultra-limited apex of the range.

864 hp Twin-Turbo V12 With a Real Seven-Speed Manual

Motivation comes from the familiar Pagani-specification 6.0-litre Mercedes-AMG twin-turbocharged 60-degree V12, hand-assembled in Affalterbach exclusively for Pagani. In the Derecho it produces 864 hp (635 kW / 852 bhp) at 6,000 rpm and 1,100 N·m (811 lb-ft) of torque available from 2,800 to 5,900 rpm. Power is routed exclusively to the rear wheels via an electromechanical self-locking differential.

The transmission is the story: a bespoke seven-speed transverse manual gearbox co-developed with Xtrac in the UK. Unlike Ferrari’s recent “Manuale by Wire” system on the 12Cilindri Manuale — which is an electronic simulation layered on top of a dual-clutch automatic — the Derecho’s gearbox is a fully mechanical unit with a real clutch pedal, real linkage and a direct mechanical connection between the gear knob and the rear axle. Pagani has kept the analogue instrument cluster to reinforce the message.

Design — Pearl Orange, Inky Blue, and a Fish-Bone Carbon Weave

The carbon fibre bodywork is finished in an exclusive Pearl Orange upper section that shifts to gold when struck by direct sunlight, matched with Inky Blue lower panels chosen to reveal the herringbone (“fish-bone”) weave of the carbon fibre substrate. Milled aluminium components carry a Glossy Titanium anodised finish; new seven-spoke forged titanium wheels measure 20-inch front and 21-inch rear, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres (265/30 R20 front, 355/25 R21 rear).

The signature roof-mounted air intake — a Huayra hallmark — is joined by a raised rear wing and quad centre-exit titanium exhausts. The Ceramic White and Tricolore Blue leather cabin is stitched by hand with contrast thread, and the “Huayra 70 Derecho” badging appears on the door panels.

Chassis, Suspension and Brakes

The Derecho retains Pagani’s Carbo-Titanium HP62 G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62 central monocoque, coupled to Cr-Mo steel front and rear subframes with fully carbon fibre body panels. Suspension is independent double-wishbone at all four corners, with upper rocker arms, coil springs and electronically-controlled adaptive dampers with cross-linked control for high-speed stability.

The braking system uses Brembo CCM carbon-ceramic discs measuring 398 mm at the front and 380 mm at the rear. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h (218 mph); Pagani has not published a 0–100 km/h figure — a deliberate emphasis, in Horacio Pagani’s words, on driving engagement over headline sprint numbers.

What Horacio Pagani Said

“Being able to present the world premiere of the Pagani Huayra 70 Derecho at Goodwood is a privilege — an opportunity to share the fruits of this work with those who share our same deep love for the automobile.”
— Horacio Pagani, Founder, Pagani Automobili

The Huayra 70 Derecho will run on the Goodwood hill alongside the Utopia Roadster, Zonda F Roadster, Huayra Codalunga Speedster and the track-only Huayra R Tempesta — assembling one of the most concentrated Pagani presences at the Festival of Speed in the event’s history. Rival open-top hypercars debuting or appearing at the same event include the Hennessey Venom F5-M, the Denza Z Convertible and the Lamborghini Fenomeno Roadster.

The third and final Huayra 70 model has not yet been announced. Whether it continues the manual-transmission philosophy or returns to an automated single-clutch remains an open question.
