Alpine has brought back one of its great names. Revealed today at the Paris Motor Show, the Alpine A310 Vision celebrates 55 years of the original 1971 A310 — the car Alpine built to take on the Porsche 911 — and 50 years of the A310 V6. It is an aluminium design concept on the new Alpine Performance Platform, with pop-down headlights, an S-duct bonnet and a split rear wing (Alpine).

Alpine calls the A310 Vision an independent design concept — a creative exploration of its heritage, not a preview of a production car (Alpine). It was created in about three months, although the idea had been developing for a couple of years. Alpine CEO Philippe Krief is open about the business case for a car like this: “It’s not a market of 100,000 cars, but it could sell more of our other models” (Auto Express).

Head of design Antony Villain describes special projects like this as “the cherry on the cake, to elevate the brand”. Alpine says there are no plans to build the Vision itself — but that could change depending on how Paris reacts (Auto Express).

According to Auto Express, the A310 Vision is lower, wider and longer than the latest Porsche 911 Turbo S (Auto Express). Alpine has not said what drives it: the concept is about design and proportions, and the APP platform can take electric power and, if Alpine decides so, combustion engines too (Classic Driver).

Design: Pop-Down Headlights, S-Duct and a Split Wing

The design draws mainly on the widebody A310 V6 with the Pack GT kit. The aluminium body has a black lower section with an organic, Formula 1-inspired treatment, and the cabin is a semi-transparent bubble. The headlights sit in a flexed nose and pop down to reveal themselves when the car starts — a modern twist on the A310’s famous light cluster. The bonnet has an S-duct, and a “Y zero” blade runs through the centre of the car towards the rear (Alpine, Classic Driver).

At the back, a two-part split rear wing with an ice-like transparency nods to the mountains, and blade-shaped tail lights double as aero elements. The triangular “A” wheels reference the full metal wheels of the early A310s (Alpine).

Inside, only part of the cabin is shown: organically shaped seats, bold colour-block trim and physical controls inspired by hi-fi equipment (Alpine).

The Original Alpine A310

The A310 was unveiled in 1971 as the successor to the A110 Berlinette, with a Renault four-cylinder engine and six headlights behind a large glass cover. In 1976 came the A310 V6, restyled by Robert Opron and powered by the PRV V6 developed by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo; it was built until 1984, and the optional Pack GT added a widebody kit (Classic Driver). From the start, the A310 was Alpine’s answer to the Porsche 911 (Auto Express).

Will There Be a New Alpine A310?

Yes — just not this one. Alpine plans a fully electric four-seat coupé from 2028, sitting at the top of the range above the second-generation A110, which arrives in 2027. Both will use the Alpine Performance Platform. Alpine stresses that the A310 Vision is not a preview of that car, but a free study of what the platform can do (Classic Driver). For a sense of where Alpine wants to go on price, the limited A110 R Ultime cost from £235,000 at launch (Auto Express).

Batman Garage Verdict

Paris 2026 is turning into a festival of revived names — RCZ, A310 — and the Alpine may be the boldest of them. It is low, wide, wonderfully angular and unmistakably French. If the 2028 production car keeps even part of this look, Porsche should pay attention.
