Ferrari has taken its 296 GT3 Evo race car and removed the rulebook. The new 296 GT Modificata is a track-only car that is not homologated for any series, so the twin-turbo V6 now makes 730 cv instead of being held back by Balance of Performance. It weighs 1,330 kg dry, has a second seat for an instructor, and is sold only to members of Ferrari’s Club Competizioni GT.
Ferrari 296 GT Modificata Price and Who Can Buy It
Ferrari has not published a price for the 296 GT Modificata, and it has not said how many will be built. Reports only speak of very limited or “extremely small” numbers. The car is not sold through normal dealers: it is available only to members of Ferrari Club Competizioni GT, a program run by Corse Clienti, Ferrari’s customer racing department. According to Luxury Launches, places are by invitation.
For context, the earlier 488 GT Modificata from 2020 reportedly cost just over $1 million. That figure comes from press reports, not from Ferrari, and it is only a guide to what this new car may cost.
The car was revealed digitally on September 13, 2026, during the Ferrari Racing Days at the Hungaroring in Budapest. Sportscar365 reports that its first public showing will be at the Finali Mondiali in Barcelona.
730 CV From a 120° Twin-Turbo V6 — No Hybrid
The engine is the familiar 2,992 cc 120° twin-turbo V6, but without the hybrid system of the road-going 296 GTB. Ferrari fitted a new crank train, camshafts, intake system, intercoolers and turbochargers, plus a revised fuel system with a low-pressure pump and a bespoke exhaust (RACER, Automoto.it).
The result is 730 cv (537 kW, about 720 hp) at 7,500 rpm and 800 Nm at 5,000 rpm. That is 244 cv per litre and 130 cv more than the 296 GT3 Evo race car. Power goes to the rear wheels through a transverse 6-speed sequential gearbox with a carbon clutch and new ratios. The road 296 GTB still has more total output, 830 cv, but it needs a plug-in hybrid system and weighs far more.
Aero, Brakes and 1,330 kg
The body starts from the GT3 Evo and adds a new “Slotted Splitter” at the front, a redesigned bonnet with a larger opening and a heat-deflection vane, and an all-new rear wing with a centre pylon, a 5 mm Gurney flap and endplates inspired by the Le Mans-winning 499P. Ferrari has not published a downforce figure or a top speed.
Dry weight is 1,330 kg, with a 120-litre fuel tank. The car runs on Pirelli slicks, 325/680 R18 front and 325/705 R18 rear, and steel brakes with 400 × 26 mm discs at the front and 332 × 32 mm at the rear (Sports Car Digest). The ABS is calibrated so that drivers of every level can use it. Ferrari says the Modificata is about 3 seconds a lap faster than the 296 GT3 Evo at its Fiorano test track (Carscoops).
Two Seats and an Instructor
Unlike the single-seat GT3 car, the Modificata has two seats with an intercom. “The two-seat configuration also lets the driver take part in track days with an instructor for an even more complete driving experience,” Ferrari said, as quoted by Sportscar365.
Equipment includes professional harnesses, improved cabin cooling, data acquisition, VideoBox Premium, a rear camera and tyre pressure and temperature monitoring, with rear radar as an option. Customers can choose their own colours through the Ferrari Design Studio.
Club Competizioni GT: The 2027 Calendar
Buying the car also buys a place in the program: two years or 12 rounds of Club Competizioni GT events with full trackside support from Ferrari. The 2027 season is planned at Jerez, Misano, Fuji, Indianapolis, Paul Ricard and Spa-Francorchamps, and ends at the Finali Mondiali.
