The Hyptec SSR — launched as the GAC Aion Hyper SSR — is the car GAC calls China’s first street-legal electric supercar (Carscoops). Three motors deliver 900 kW (1,225 PS), the quickest versions reach 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds, and the body is carbon fibre with butterfly doors. In China it costs from CNY 1,286,000 (about $192,000). In November 2025 it set a Guinness World Record for the fastest drift by an electric car, and a gold Cloud Pattern edition followed for the 2026 model year.

What Is the Hyptec SSR?
The SSR is the halo car of Hyptec, the premium electric brand of Guangzhou-based GAC. It was revealed on 15 September 2022 as the Aion Hyper SSR, with the promise of 0–100 km/h in 1.9 seconds (CarNewsChina), and went on sale on 9 October 2023, when the first customers also took delivery (CnEVPost). The shape goes back to the GAC Enpulse concept roadster of 2020; the exterior was led by GAC design director Pontus Fontaeus (Wikipedia).
On 5 August 2024 the brand changed its English name from Hyper to Hyptec as part of a “brand value upgrade” for export: “Hyp” comes from hyper car and “Tec” from technology (CnEVPost). The Chinese name, Haobo (昊铂), did not change. That is why the same car appears online as the Hyper SSR, Aion Hyper SSR, GAC Hyptec SSR and Haobo SSR.

Hyptec SSR Specs: Three Motors, 900 kW
All production versions use three permanent-magnet motors: one at the front with a peak output of 320 kW and two at the rear with 260 kW and 320 kW, for a combined 900 kW (IT之家, NetEase). GAC quotes 1,225 PS; the motors produce 1,230 Nm, while the headline figure of 12,000 Nm in GAC material is measured at the wheels, after the gearing (CarNewsChina, Gasgoo). Power goes through a two-speed integrated drive unit on a 900-volt system with silicon-carbide electronics.
The battery is a 74.69 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt pack supplied by CALB, part of GAC’s “Magazine Battery” safety concept, good for 506 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle (CarNewsChina). The body is full carbon fibre on an all-aluminium frame with a torsional stiffness of 50,475 Nm per degree; an electric rear wing produces 100 kg of downforce at 250 km/h (Gasgoo).

Some figures vary between sources: early reports gave a length of 4,583 mm and a height of 1,238 mm (CnEVPost), and one Chinese launch report quoted 300 km/h instead of 251 km/h. The table uses the figures repeated in GAC’s launch material and the 2025 model data. GAC has not published charging speeds or a WLTP range.
Inside: Butterfly Doors and Two Screens
The SSR has two seats behind electric butterfly doors that open upwards and outwards. In front of the driver is an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, with a 14.6-inch central touchscreen in the middle (Gasgoo). The chassis uses an electronic limited-slip differential, adaptive dampers and rear-wheel steering to keep 900 kW under control.
Guinness World Record: 213.5 km/h Drift
In November 2025 GAC announced that the SSR had set the Guinness World Record for the highest drift speed by a pure electric vehicle: 213.523 km/h in Guangzhou (GAC press release). The driver was professional racer Ye Zhicheng, and to count, the car had to hold a drift angle of at least 30 degrees above 207 km/h for at least 50 metres (CarNewsChina). GAC has not published a Nürburgring or other lap time for the SSR.
2026 Cloud Pattern Gold Edition
At the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2025, Hyptec added the Cloud Pattern Gold edition (云纹金高定版) for the 2026 model year. It costs CNY 1,486,000 and is covered in more than 20,000 hand-painted cloud motifs over a gold paint finish, with custom leather inside. The drivetrain is unchanged: 900 kW, 1.9 seconds to 100 km/h and 251 km/h (NetEase).
SSR Baja Concept: The Supercar Goes Off-Road
In August 2025 GAC’s design studio in Los Angeles showed the Hyptec SSR Baja Concept, a desert-racing take on the supercar. It sits higher on off-road tyres, with body cladding, auxiliary lights, a roll cage and a small rear bed carrying two spare wheels; the butterfly doors stay (Carscoops). GAC has published no powertrain changes or production plans — for now it is a design study.
Can You Buy a Hyptec SSR Outside China?
Only in a few markets. The overseas version went into production in August 2024 (CarNewsChina), and the first export car was delivered in Thailand on 9 December 2024, at the GAC Aion Expressway Ramintra dealership in Bangkok (Gasgoo). The SSR was shown at the Paris Motor Show in October 2024 (CnEVPost), as a preview at the UAE launch of GAC and Hyptec with Gargash Motors in May 2025 (DriveArabia) and at the Singapore Motorshow in January 2026 (OneShift). There is no official price for Europe, the UK or the US.
Sales have been tiny. Chinese registration data reported by Sohu Auto in December 2025 counted three SSRs in six months and five in a year, against 35 and 141 for the Yangwang U9 over the same periods (Sohu Auto). That makes the SSR one of the rarest new cars in China — though because of slow demand, not a production limit. GAC has never published a limit.
Hyptec SSR vs Yangwang U9, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and Rimac Nevera
| Car | Power | 0–100 km/h | Battery / range | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyptec SSR Ultimate | 900 kW (1,225 PS) | 1.9 s | 74.69 kWh / 506 km CLTC | CNY 1.686M |
| Yangwang U9 | 960 kW (1,306 hp) | 2.36 s | 80 kWh / 450 km CLTC | CNY 1.68M |
| Xiaomi SU7 Ultra (sedan) | 1,138 kW (1,548 PS) | 1.98 s | 93.7 kWh / 630 km CLTC | CNY 529,900 |
| Rimac Nevera | 1,408 kW (1,914 hp) | 1.81 s | 120 kWh / 489 km WLTP | Not published |
Sources: CnEVPost (U9), CnEVPost (SU7 Ultra), Rimac (Nevera). The SSR is lighter and quicker to 100 km/h than the U9, but the BYD has more power, reached 496 km/h in Xtreme form and sells many times more cars. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is a four-door sedan, yet it is more powerful and costs less than a third of the SSR’s price.
Batman Garage Verdict
The Hyptec SSR proved that a Chinese brand could build a real carbon-bodied, butterfly-door supercar — and deliver it before BYD’s Yangwang U9. On paper it is a match for European electric hypercars at a fraction of their price: 1.9 seconds to 100 km/h for around $207,000. But the market has moved fast. The U9 has more power and records, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra brings similar acceleration for a third of the money, and the SSR’s 251 km/h top speed looks modest. For collectors, its appeal is rarity: with only a handful sold each year, an SSR is far rarer on the road than most limited-edition Ferraris.
